Late Victorian Fox and Hound Diamond Brooches

A beautiful pair of Late Victorian old cut diamond fox and hound brooches set in silver on gold.

The set is comprised of two brooches which depict a running fox and hound. The brooches are set throughout with a mixture of rose cut and old cut diamonds. Each brooch has been cleverly crafted and designed so that each diamond is encased it its own setting. Not only does this secure each diamond but also highlights the naturalistic features of the animals. Both fox and hound are also accented with a cabochon ruby eye. It is secured to reverse with a pin and clasp fitting; uniquely there is also a safety catch to secure the brooches firmly.

Due to the size and design the brooches would be a perfect addition to a jumper and/or coat. Considering their age, they are in fantastic condition with all the original diamonds and fitted box! Over time the brooches have aged, and the natural patina is showing through making them a recognisable Victorian era piece. What’s nice about the pair is that they don’t necessarily need to be worn together, added some variety.

There is an estimated combined diamond weight of 2.75 carats. These diamonds are estimated H-I in colour with SI1-SI2 clarity. The fox measures 1.2 x 3.9 centimetres and the hound measures 1.9 x 4.2 centimetres. There is a combined weight of 11.7 grams. Typical of the ear the brooch is not hallmarked but has been tested for gold and silver. Everything will be outlined in a complimentary valuation for insurance and authenticity.
