12.64ct Old European Brilliant Diamond Stud Earrings Platinum
A magnificent pair of GIA certified old European diamond stud earrings set in platinum.
Matching perfectly in their incredible sparkle and brilliance, each earring features a GIA-certified old European brilliant-cut diamond of an incredible size. Each stone is eight-claw-set in an open-back setting with a double openwork gallery and secured to reverse with a post and butterfly fitting.
The pair have been nicknamed ‘The Victoria Earrings’ after the famous British monarch Queen Victoria. The earrings take their name from a similar pair worn at the Coronation of Queen Victoria in 1838. The Coronation was the first time in history that the royal collection of crown jewels were able to be seen at first hand by the public.
The diamond earrings are from the mid-19th century and have a total carat weight of 12.64 carats. Each diamond is independently certified by the GIA with one diamond having a total carat weight of 6.30 carats, assessed as L in colour with VVS2 clarity. The other has a total carat weight of 6.34 carats, assessed as M in colour with SI1 clarity. GIA report numbers: 2205314624 and 5201314627. The earrings are matched spectacularly is both size and colour and it is extremely rare to find something similar.
The diamond pair are a magnificent example of 19th century diamond cutting and were traditionally created by craftsmen using hand tools. The diamond cutters honed their craft over decades and these skills are now a rarity. The studs are simple yet breathtaking once on the ear and because of their simplicity could easily be worn by themselves as a statement piece or worn with other jewels.
The diamonds are accompanied with their own fitted maroon box, GIA certificates, as well as a complimentary valuation for insurance purposes by our own in-house registered valuer. For size reference the earrings measure 1.2 x 1.2 centimetres and have a combined gross weight of 7.5 grams.
