Victorian Old Cut Diamond Bird Brooch

A beautiful Late Victorian old cut diamond bird brooch set in silver on gold.

The brooch depicts a flying bird set throughout with a mixture of rose cut, single cut and old cut diamonds. The piece has been cleverly crafted and designed so that each diamond is encased it its own setting. Not only does this secure each diamond but also highlights the naturalistic features of the bird’s feathers. The bird is also accented with a cabochon ruby eye. It is secured to reverse with a pin and clasp fitting.

Due to the size and design this brooch would be a perfect addition to a jumper and/or coat. Considering its age, it is in fantastic condition with all its original rose cut diamonds. Over time the brooch has aged, and the natural patina is showing through making it a recognisable Victorian era piece.

There are 200 stones set within the bird motif, having an estimated total weight of 12.00 carats. These diamonds are estimated H-I in colour with SI1-SI2 clarity. The motif measures It measures exactly 3.1 x 5.1 centimetres and has a gross weight of 21.1 grams. Typical of the ear the brooch is not hallmarked but has been tested for 15ct gold and silver.
