Antique Imperial Topaz and Diamond Necklace
A visually staggering Victorian royal topaz and diamond necklace set in silver on gold. The focal stones, a large faceted oval and a pendeloque cut royal topaz are of the highest quality. The extended shape of the pendeloque cut allows the colour concentration so important to royal topaz to be visualised at the tips of the stone, where a vibrant royal shade is displayed. The imperial topaz section appears to be Georgian from the early 1800’s, the cutting style of the rose cut diamonds bordering the faceted oval stone and those adorning the spray above are of a much earlier style than those adorning the necklace, which was probably added on during the mid Victorian era. The royal topaz and the rose cut diamonds adorning the focal section are all set in closed backs a traditionally Georgian feature, whereas the rose cut diamonds on the necklace are open backed a feature used more commonly from Victorian times onwards. Estimated Imperial Topaz weight 20.20 carats. Estimated total diamond weight 14.65 carats.
